Originally from Osaka, Japan, Ryu has been in Canada for more than 20 years and has long ago become a Canadian citizen. Ryu has been immersed in music since a young age. For his full story please go to the menu for Biography.

Ryu can be seen performing all around the Edmonton area. Ryu keeps busy year round playing in local pubs and lounges as well as at house concerts, block parties, private and corporate events, weddings, birthday parties, retirement homes, and community events. He is a popular attraction at the many Farmer’s Markets throughout the summer. He loves to jam with other musicians and can often be found at an open mic event supplying exciting solos and playing crowd favourites from his vast repertoire. Recent performances enjoyed by appreciative guests include The Leaf Bar and Grill, High Note Bar and Grill, The Boar’s Nest at New Sarepta, Station on Jasper, the Black Ship, Twin Otter, Black Ship, The East Coast Junction, The Duck Taphouse, and more engagements are coming up soon at other venues. Ryu performed last year frequently at the U of A Botanic Gardens. Whether it was Luminaria in December and January, or Twilight Picnics throughout the summer, his music was heard wafting amongst the flowers and trees in the Kurimoto Japanese Garden, all easy listening favourites with a bluesy flair, and some Japanese folk songs too!

Teaching is one of Ryu’s favourite occupations, and he has a limited number of students attending lessons in his home studio or by Skype or Zoom. He can also help Japanese-bound travelers learn the basic language they will need while visiting Japan, as restrictions are eased and travel is allowed once again.
